History

Behind every success, there is often a story. The idea for Lazarus was born during the complex yet highly successful restructuring of the media group Stampen, where two of Lazarus’ four partners were in charge.
This process was initially kept confidential and given the codename “Project Lazarus.” The project name reflected the ambition of the complicated rescue mission, which aimed to decisively revive the Stampen Group. At the time, the restructuring was Sweden’s largest ever, involving 16 companies undergoing parallel corporate reorganizations in several district courts simultaneously.

As part of the necessary overhaul of Stampen, formal corporate restructurings were carried out for many of the group’s companies.

When the processes concluded in 2016/17, we realized that our team had gained unique practical experience in successfully navigating even the most challenging situations. We struggled to find other teams in Sweden with similar hands-on experience, which became the starting point for Lazarus. For a few years, we worked on practical advisory and interim assignments focused specifically on complex turnaround situations. Then, in 2019, we made our first acquisitions of companies in distress.

Since then, Lazarus has completed 11 acquisitions. Three of our investments have been successfully divested, and the current portfolio of eight companies continues to develop in the right direction.
